Using text excerpts from Chapter 3 of Knots by RD Laing, published in 1970, Silverberg creates an alphabet book that echoes the truth and absurdity of Laing’s transformative writing about relationships:
A can see that he sees what B can’t see and that B can’t see B can’t see it.
A can see that he sees what B can’t see but A can’t see that B can’t see that B can’t see it
C thinks he does not know what he thinks D thinks he does not know.
But D thinks C does know it.
C doesn’t know he knows and he doesn’t know D does not know.
And so on…
