Series of 4: 2000
Dobbin Mill abaca and cotton rag papers, graphite
19″ x 25″
Forty pages – the number for eternity – are contained in the 4 boxes of this edition. Each black sheet is granite patterned – with markings of scratching, clawing, dragging. These marks were made in response to the concept of Primitivbauweise – created by SS Chief Heinrich Himmler, where prisoners were ordered to work with their bare hands wherever possible.
Within these pulp paintings, permutations of numbers #1 through #186 are laboriously written out. The number variations are transcribed in Russian, German, and Yiddish among others.
