craps

craps, 2001 / Edition of 50 / Archival inkjet printing & hand stamping on Dobbin Mill papers

Size: 3.75” x 3.7”

craps is a small book that looks at a month of numbers & estimates, all taken from the “Estimated Dead” columns published in the New York Times, between the dates, September 12th to October 11th, 2001…when life here in NYC resembled a game of craps.

Additional thoughts:

Most of the artwork done in 2001/2002 focused on either detritus or on one other theme:  counting – the ambiguity and obsession of counting: counting missing / counting dead / counting firemen/ police … counting the unquantifiable, like grains of sand on the beach or fish in the sea.
